SUPER BOWL PREDICTIONS: STEELERS OR PACKERS?

-ProphetOcho (rappinsports@gmail.com)

If you are counting Super Bowls the Pittsburgh Steelers are the best franchise in NFL history considering they have the most Super Bowl victories with six. The Steelers face an even more storied franchise in the Green Bay Packers who won nine championships before the Super Bowl era and they also won three Super Bowls in 1967, 1968 and 1996. Since then they made only one other Super Bowl appearance in 1997 but lost to the Denver Broncos. (being a die-hard Broncos fan, I had to throw that in there, ha!)

This year the Green Bay Packers are led by their young quarterback Aaron Rodgers who is making his first Super Bowl appearance. The Steelers are led by one of the most under-rated quarterbacks in Ben Roethlisberger, who is going for his third Super Bowl ring since 2005. I would say both Rodgers and Roethlisberger are pretty close in talent but Big Ben is the more durable of the two.

The Packers have great wide receivers in Greg Jennings and Donald Driver along with contributions from James Jones and rookie Jordy Nelson. The Steelers receivers are equally talented with veteran Hines Ward and second year man Mike Wallace leading the way plus they also can go to two talented rookies in Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown.

Both defenses are obviously very good or they would never have made it this far but the Steelers are more experienced in playoff games and they appear to be more physical, as we saw when they played the New York Jets.

The difference in this game will be the running backs. The Steelers have the advantage with the young, multi-talented Rashard Mendenhall who rushed for 1273 yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. The Packers are depending on rookie James Starks who is surprisingly good in his rookie season but I think Mendenhall along with Roethlisberger's experience will help the Steelers win Super Bowl XLV 31-27 in a close game that will probably be decided in in last two minutes of the game. Tell me who you got in the big game, Steelers or Packers?
